BBC 'NEWS' | Europe | 'Al-Qaeda-link' Cern worker held | Diigo
via diigo.com
A very poor job by the BBC. It's a brief story, and a quick perusal shows that the key elements of excitement are only tenuously connected - terrorism, internet, high-energy physics.
CERN, where a planet-eating black hole will be created!! Al-Qa'ida!! Internet!!
It's all very tenuous. He's not even an employee of CERN proper, and had no access to anything remotely planet-destroying. But if you want to sell papers, or garner page views, then a tabloid headline like
'Al-Qaeda link' Cern worker held
will do wonders for you. Spread a little terror, why not?
Disappointing.
